Hi,

Please can you help me.
I am researching my ancestor Thomas Matthew Dyett who was appointed to the Manchester Regiment Corps at Ashton Under Lyne on 1 Jan 1886 age 19
I have reason to believe he was in the 3rd Battalion Royal Fusiliers as on the Military History sheet I found on    Find My Past Family History Site. (Chelsea Pensioners)    The last entry on the Statement of Service sheet states Died 6. 12. 92 please can anyone give further information on this.                                                                   Your help would be very much appreciated

Kind Regards

Eva

Hi Chris

Thanks for the welcome

I found this info on The Military Records. British army service records 1760-1913 at     findmypast.co.uk  there were 5 separate forms, one was a description of enlistment another a short service attestation of Thomas and one with the death.

the way i'm reading the forms is that he was with the Royal Fusiliers and transferred into the (new) Manchester Regiment, if you look at the signature of the officer signing him up he was a Royal Fusilier officer

Hi Chris

Yes I noticed he was in the 3rd Batt of Royal Fusiliers then was enlisted by special authority to the Manchester Regiment after receiving notice from Sgt Turner of 5th Batt Royal Fusiliers, he was also asked if he understood it's meaning.
Do you know under what circumstances he could have been enlisted by special authority?

I cannot find a death for him at the GRO so it looks as though he died in service, any advice as where to go next please?

Many thanks, Eva

it does look like he died in the east indies in service

i am unsure of how you get a dc for death overseas
