i am trying to find information on my great grandad, i know he served with the manchester regiment,no1942 on searching the national archives it also appeared he served with the south staffs regiment,no34804 although the surname is spelt remmington iam sure it is the same person.
any info would be great as my great granddad is somewhat of a mystery ie cannot find on any census,etc although i do believe he did survive the greatwar

have you actually downloaded the card, it does have information on it that may be of use.

judging by his service number he was either a regular army man or in the territorials

thanks .have downloaded medal cards but now more confused on the one useing his reg no for sth staffs reg it shows  him as a lance corpral  enlisting 9/9/13, discharged11/7/19. there is also the following on the card but finding it difficult to read.with help from the kids believe it says :
para sq 2x
a/o 29/19/kr
list f/a/1449
what does it all mean?

it is his index card for his silver war badge ( it means he was injured or wounded while in service)

interestingly enough, there's another card which shows his medal entitlement and some more info!

here we have his other card



here we can see that he was an acting sergeant with the manchesters.

he went to france/flanders on the 5th dec 1914. left the army (quite late in 1919)

he was entitled to the 1914 star, the victory and war medal medals and ( from his other card) the silver war badge

what battalion? it's either the first or the second, my guess here is that he was a regular called back from reserve or held back in a training role, perhaps Roy could look further into the medal rolls to confirm it

just an update
having done a little detective work it would appear that he married at the holy trinity church hulme and at the time was with the first battalion manchesters in may of 1915
then after seeing my grand mothers birth certificate dated may 1916 it shows his occupation as with the fourth battalion manchesters,which does possibly tally as my father does recall that he spent time in cleethorpes on the humber defences,after looking at the battalion indexes this seems to confirm this
