Hi All.
Can anybody tell me where the 1/5 Bn Manchester Regiment were deployed to when they returned to UK after the end of WW1, the reason I ask is my relation applied for his medals in Dec 1921 and gave an address in Birkdale Southport which I find strange seeing that he came from Salford. I am wondering if he was still a serving officer and was stationed in Birkdale. Any information will be really appreciated.
Regards Dave.

Dave.

The Territorial Force as a whole began to be disbanded in December 1918 and their future was very uncertain. It then took two or three years before any decisions were made. By December 1921 any remnants of the 5th battalion would not have strayed far from Wigan so I suggest that the Birkdale address was one where  your relative was living - as a civilian.
