My first posting.

My Grandfather William Medlock born 15th Feb 1984 served with the 2/7 Manchester Regiment. I have his soldiers book.

Can anyone help me with some info please?  I have a telegram sent to my grandmother (his wife) on 24th March 1917 saying he had been dangerously wounded (he lived to a good age by the way). Now he was posted to France on 6th March 1917 so he was only there for a few weeks before being wounded (was discharged as no longer being physically fit on 4th October 1917). I have read that they didn't have a lot of combat at that time but held a line.

My question is has anyone any idea how he could have been wounded? I do know that because of whatever happened he had a very small piece of his skull missing. Where they fighting/under attack? Any information as to why he may have been injured and where he was at that time would be very much appreciated. Thank you. Jean

Hi Jean

and welcome to the group

I will move this over to the Great War Section, where more people will see it

If you have a look at this section on the main site, it will give you an idea of what the 2nd/7th were doing during their war. They were part of the 66th Division

Cheers

Chris
