Hello All

New to this forum today and joined after following a thread on the Great War Forum. After spending some time looking at threads here I recognise a few names.

I am new to war history and I am reseraching the men behind the names on Wesham (near Kirkham Lancashire) war memorial. Most of those who served from the town were in the Loyal North Lancashire Regiment, just one from the Manchesters. I have information on the "Loyals",  so I am just trying to find anything I can out about Frank so he has his place along side the others in the display I am doing.

Thanks

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer and Welcome  ;D

Your display sounds interesting !  I'm sure we will help if we can!

What kind of display is it?

Hi Wendi

A Wesham community group approached university (I am doing a hobby degree, nothing to do with work) and asked if any students wanted to reserach aspects of the town's history. When I got the war memorial I didn't expect to be hooked! The project was marked in December after one display, but I want to find something out about all of the men so I am continuing. Local residents are bringing forward letters, photographs, medals etc and I am locating how the memorial was funded, war diaries, service records, snippets from newspapers etc. I know it is not possible but I aim to have something about all 49 of them from ww1, and the 150 of them served,  then I will start on 23 from ww2 who died and I have no idea yet how many served. Then I will be trying to find out about widows, those who were injured, Fylde Union Workhouse being used as a military hospital etc. etc., my husband refers to our dinning room as Wesham HQ!

The display is Sunday 14th November, Wesham Community Centre, 12 - 4 pm, straight after the service at the memorial

Hi again Jennifer !

What a lovely project (of course I would say that  :D ) and I am glad that you have found it so interesting.  Doing something like this certainly brings back the old community feeling to a place!

I notice that you have already had quite a lot of help regarding Frank Gardner and I'm sure we'll help with others as we can.

Good Luck with your Research!

Wendi  :)
