2/10 Manchesters
« on: December 03, 2011, 11:47:57 AM »
From some great input on this forum I've been able to establish that my great Uncle (RS Hilliard) seems to have been mobilised around Sept 1916 into the 2/10. Apparently his number indicates this timing.
In Feb 1918 the 2/10 was disbanded and he was transferred to the 1/7.
RS Hilliard was KIA on 28 Sep 1918 and is buried at Flesquieres.

I'd like to try and understand what action the 2/10 had between Sept 1916 and Feb 1918. Just wondering if anybody has that history that they could share with me and if the War Diaries of available for any actions that took place?

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Brian

Thanks for that tonyrod.

I noticed in the forum somebody had started compiling a more in-depth history of the battalions and just wondered if it had extended to the 2/10 yet? Plus the possibility of War Diaries?

have a look at this section on the main site, it is the history of the 66th, the 66th division includes the 2/10th so it will give you a really good idea about what they were up to

66th division

Yes that's how it is transcribed on SWDGW & on Ancestry. com, but you have to remember that they are only transcribes and most records are transcribed freely. Many are transcribed from very old/worn/torn/burnt records that are in bad condition. Also sometimes the hand writing is very hard to read, many people on here who have looked at army records will tell you the same.

Thanks Mack. I'm a little particular on his name being right seeing as he was KIA. Least that can happen is to get his name right.

Just sent a note to Ancestry to correct it tonyrod. It now explains why I couldn't find him.
