the manchester regimental museum does not hold any documents relating to the regiment,it only holds the regiments medals and its artifacts.
the curator is gary smith

the regiments documents and photos,are kept at ashton library in the local studies unit,this unit is not solely for the manchester regts archives,their records are part of the excellent local studies collection,under the archivist larisa bolton and her staff,any enquiries about documents should be made to them and not to the museum

Once again away leading the way. Larysa Bolton the Archivist and her team have now placed the Manchester Regiment Archive catalogue on line. 
It can be accessed  via this link: http://localstudies.tameside.gov.uk/CalmView/default.aspx
 
It  contains the whole Regimental Archive Catalogue and is the most up-to-date version of this particular catalogue.  Updates to the catalogue are fairly instantaneous.
 
 To find items from the regimental collection, use the advanced search option, enter MR* into the Archives reference number field, and then type in your search term in the any text field. 
 

Robert Bonner:
The latest addition to the published histories of the Regiment is now available on sale from either the museum or the archive centre.  This is Ladysmith Barracks - 1845 -1958 and is the first recorded history of the regimental depot and Headquarters of the Manchester Regiment.

Very little was known of the reason for the barracks being built there in the first place, which was to assist the authorities in the suppression of  riots and public disorder taking place in and around the cotton towns of Ashton and Stalybridge.

Sufficient that in 1881 it became the Depot and Headquarters of our Regiment, training young men, and women as well during WWII, for service throughout the world in peace and war.

Ladysmith Barracks has 72 pages and is illustrated with 56 photographs and 6 diagrams and charts.  The cost is £12 - plus whatever postage is required - if necessary.
