One more thing? I'm trying to find him in the london Gazette but i'm having trouble?They don't make it easy.
Any pointers?

I know what you mean about the London Gazette-it is not very "user friendly". Why would he be listed in the Gazette ?-was he decorated or commissioned ?.

He won the meritorious service medal and on his mic is says its in the gazette.
Just a case of finding it???
Sadly his service papers didn't survive though???

Had a quick look-I couldn't find it either  -I will have another look and let you know if i find anything

you guys are right about his batt,company,platoon etc,but he wasnt awarded a MSM while with a pals battalion,i have all the decorations for the pals,and alberts not amongst them.

I couldn't find any mention of an award of the MSM to him either. He was later with the Labour corps-maybe he was awarded it whilst serving with them ?

albert was awarded the MSM while serving with the 210th coy,labour corps in italy,he was a acting sgt at the time,it was published in the peace gazette in 1919.

His records didn't survive but do you think he went to italy with the Manchester's and transferred there?

i cant help with that info dave,its most likely he did go to italy with the 20th batt,but without proof,i wouldnt like to spoil your research by guessing,good hunting dave.
