Hi to all,

Both of my grandfathers served in The Manchester Regiment during WW1 and happily both survived. Both lived in Horwich. They were not regulars and I do not think territorials. I have little knowledge other than the following:

William Fletcher served in Mesopotamia, I think 2nd Bn.

Joseph Caldwell born in October 1898 served in France - not sure which battalion but I think he was conscripted. He was severely wounded in a trench explosion (mortar?) in 1917 and recovered in Wales, being discharged from hospital as a private in 1919. His number may have been 60561.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Tyke

and welcome to the group

we could really do with splitting william's and joseph's queries in the great war section, that way we will be able to look at them individually and not mix up the replies

cheers
