Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans.

My first posting to the forum but here goes....

Delighted to find the name of my Great-Grandfather, Samuel Mason Bleasdale, listed here, which has identified for me the platoon and company he served with in the 22nd Manchesters.  He died on the first day of the Battle of the Somme leaving behind 4 young children and a lot of broken hearts.  His name appears on the Thiepval memorial.

Next step was to try to identify him.  I have a number of photos taken before he enlisted, before he went to France, and in France after his promotion to LCpl.  By process of elimination, I think he must be sat on the front row at the far right.  It seems to be the only moustache & face that matches.  But what do you think?

Thanks.

The full-sized photos are even better.  But the platoon photo on this forum is the only one I have of him smilng.  Nice to think that amongst his pals he found something to laugh at.
