Hi digeoff and a Warm Welcome to The Forum  ;D

2nd row down from the top, 4th from the right, with the two strips would make him a corporal when the photo was taken.

Any idea about date?

Hi and welcome.
As regarding the "picture" I noticed it looks a bit damaged in places. I must say that I have had some great help from the folks on rootschat.com. They have a great section on photo image restoration. Just to tidy up or a bit more. You just send the image on line to them like you have on here.  Lots of people are helping to restore the images that you send. Its a free service. Gives them something to do and improve their skills. Its just a thought to you, as I am sure you would want to preserve the great photo you have!
Its free to join and there are some great folks on there. You might find some of them over on this site too!!!
regards
tisgrannie.

Hi digeoff !

I was wondering if you had managed to find him on the 1901 Census, but to narrow that down we might need to know where he was born ?

Just to recap, so far we have:
Henry Jackson b. 1884 son if Thomas Jackson
                    m. 1912
                    d. Abt 1955

Lived Bradford & Salford.

What was your Grandmothers name?

Wendi  :)

The only death between 1954 and 1956, that I can find was Qtr1 1955 Salford age 70.
The marriage appears to be Qtr 2 1912 Salford to Mary Francis Bradley.

There is only 1 Henry Jackson, born c 1884, listed  in 1901 with a father Thomas in all England.
Living at Tonge. Father a farmer

There may be others that don't show of course, if he's not living with his father, or mistranscribed.
There are a few more showing up in 1891.

Interestingly, I think it shows up a flaw in the search mechanism for a well known site.
In 1891, if you search for Henry born 1884 +-1, father Thomas, he doesn't appear, but if you search for Thomas, Henry is clearly
there in the family.
Thomas is down as Thos, which is recognised as an alternative to Thomas in the first field, but not when you use it in the 'father' field.

Cheers,
    Dave

Well sussed Dave !

The 1901 Census also lists that Henry Jacksons birth as being in Longworth.  Between 1837 and 1898 a birth in Longworth would have been registered by Bolton Registry Office and of course there is one,

+/- 1 of 1884, but it's in the June Quarter of 1883 ???

Could this be your Henry digeoff?

You people have really been working hard on this one and thanks very much. This is what I have found out on his marriage certificate dated the 25 May 1912 it shows him as being 27 a Rubber Worker living in Sarah Ann Street which is right near if not under Man City's  new ground( and me being a Red) his father was Thomas Jackson (deceased)and he too was a rubber vulcanizer. His wife was Mary E Pennington 23 a Shirt Maker
In the 1901 census he is with his Grandmother Martha Owen and also there is his sister Louisa he is down as 16 and she is 20.
In the 1881 census that shows Thomas Jackson head 24 a smithy labourer
born in Golborne Lancashire his wife Henry's mother was a Mary 20 a cotton weaver born in Aston on Mersey and his sister Louisa born Bradford Lancashire and living in Bradford Lancashire. Hope thats some help Digeoff
