Hi all,

I have been researching my family history and have found some old photos of my great grandad Michael Gleeson. He looks as though he is a sergeant as he has 3 stripes. On the back of the photo it says "2nd Manchester Regiment". I have been told he was in the Boer War and there is a later photograph which looks like WW1 so maybe he got called up again?

His son was John W Gleeson and was in the First World War with the Manchester Regiment. Any information would be much appreciated!

hiya stu.
does this fit in with what you have

colour/sgt 953 michael gleeson
discharged to pension on 31-5-1897 after serving 18yrs with the south lancs regt and then the manchesters.
re-enlisted as pte 2602 michael gleeson on 24-9-14,appointed col/sgt the same day
10th manchesters
aged 54
lived at 201 block lane,oldham
wife,mary
children,john,william and edith[twins]/harold and ernest

there was only one john gleeson who served in the manchesters,he was pte 2551,he ended up in the RASC,its possible his service records are still at the MOD if he served after 1922
