Hi Harribobs and Timberman
One thing leads to another. Were any campaign medals issued for the above?
Cheers Willi

i'm not an expert on this but i suspect a general service medal with appropriate clasps would have been issued

Morning,
Where would the India Medal Roll be kept?
Willi

Bob.NB

Willi,
Two companies of the 2nd Battalion Manchester Regiment were involved in the Miranzai Expedition in 1891 and received the India General Service Medal 1849-1895 with the clasp "Samana 1891." Approximately 311 were awarded. The roll should be in the National Archives at Kew.

Evening Bob NB,
Thanks for your trouble but 1891 is too early.
I estimate Sgt Frederick Tilsley only enlisted during 1893.
Cheers Willi

 Morning Themonster,
Looking on the net I found a site where you said you had the medal rolls for the Indian General Service Medal(1854-1895) (IGSM) with Bar Samana 1891(5th April-25th May 1891) for the 2nd Bn Manchesters. Does  Frederick Tilsley perhaps appear on this list?
Cheers Willi.

Hi,
I am putting together a collage of my grandfather's service in the Man Reg. Can anyboby help with a picture of the dress uniform used by the Regiment over period of 1893 to 1902?
Cheers Willi

Willi Tilsley

Hi
Can anybody help? I have just received my grandfather's service record from Kew.
This shows that he went to India during 1895 with the 2nd Batt Manchesters and stayed there until 1898 when they returned home. My question is what did they do there if no campaign medals were awarded?
Regards Willi

;D Guarding, and keeping Rule over Her Majesties Empire Willi !

Sorry..... Look  to the chaps on the forum for a sensible reply !  but if he saw no action presumably there would have been no medal ???

Hi
I have been searching for my Gfather's medals and found the following notation next to his QSA.
Retr to Woolwich 68/SA/29 and 13.14/6/14.
Does this mean anything to anyone.
Thanks

It looks like return to Woolwich, Woolwich is were the medals were issue from so if there was a problem with them, this is were you would send them.

If they were never issue (to the soldier) the unit would also send them back to Woolwich, If at somepoint the old Soldier wished to reclaim them he would write to Woolwich to get them back.

Morning,
Is there perhaps a Statute of Limitations on claiming Boer War Medals?
Cheers
