Pte John Pearson MM

1822 Pte John Pearson MM of the 1/7 Manchester Regiment was one of the very few men captured at Gallipoli. He was awarded an MM in the London Gazette of 20 January 1920.
The awards in this list were primarily for "services rendered in captivity or in attempting to escape or escaping therefrom".
I have Pte Pearson's MM - can anyone tell me anything about him or point me in the right direction.
Apart from his MIC, WWI medal roll details and London Gazette entry - I can find out nothing more about him.

i could never find any more info about john,i only know that he was one of 4 men from the 1/7th,who were taken prisoner at gallipoli.

the american embassy in constantinople,passed some lists of men who were POWs in turkey,these men were on the list

pte 2323 christopher nealon,24 hothersall rd,salford,1/7th
pte 3417 percy cubley,46 gardenwall st,salford,11th,wounded in the elbow,in hospital at constantinople
sgt 3498 albert cherriman,11th
cpl 3726 john,henry espin,21 russell st,altrincham,wounded in left knee,in hospital at constantinople,11th
pte 3888 hugh sellers,34 college croft,eccles,11th,died at angora 18-12-16
pte 1552 joseph,van calstron,44 north george st,salford,1/7th
pte 1822 john pearson,1/7th
Lt edgar,thomas granger,32 granby rd,mile end stockport,1/7th

there were two other men from the manchesters who were taken prisoner,but they were not on these lists,heres the story

pte hewitt of the 1/9th,wrote to his old boss,who he was employed for on his farm at littlemoss,he said that he was with pte marland at gallipoli on 19th june 1915,they were about to jump a trench,when a shell burst near them,pte marland jumped onto the other side and was grabbed by the turks and took away,pte hewitt was wounded in the leg by the shell,and also marched off,after marching for a couple of miles,he came across pte marlands bugle lying at the side of the track,and picked it up,he intended to return it to him when they got home to ashton,but it was taken off him by the turks while he was recovering in hospital at constantinople,pte marland never came home,nobody knew what happened to him,pte hewitt didnt mention about any shelling on his trek back to the turkish lines,i can only summise that they must have killed him.

I am still trying to find out more about 1822/275420 Pte. John Pearson MM 7th Manchester Regiment.
I have found out that he came from Newton Heath and have found him (I think) on Ancestry as living there in 1901 (There was only one John Pearson aged between 18 and 30 in 1914 living in Manchester in 1901).
Does anyone know which local newspaper covered Newton Heath during WWI so I can see if he is mentioned?

ime only 9yrs late with this info,i blame the buses

john lived at 259 oldham rd,newton heath at the time of capture,he was born 2-5-1894
son of james,robinson and zilpha pearson[sadly she died in the lunatic asylum on 25th june 1911]
he was in B.coy
in the camp at bilemedik with all the other manchesters in the above list
married his sweetheart emily,lilian davies at newton heath weslyan chapel 16-6-1920
occupation.mechanic
in WW2 john+emily lived at "wayside"middlewood rd,poynton,he was the key warden at the ARP offices,worked as a commissionair for a insurance company

his younger brother pte 1797 james edward pearson DOWs at lancashire landing on 25th june 1915,the exact date of his mothers death four years earlier,he was serving with the 1/8th lancs fusiliers.

i only got a lead on this yesterday bob while looking for something else,i know your still alive bob,you were on the forum a few days ago

To the best of my knowledge I am still alive although creaking a bit - apologies for not replying sooner but just got back from my hols.
