Cap Badge WWII

Hi,

I would like to enquire re, the cap insignia/badge worn by enlisted men of the 9th Bn The Manchester Regiment in 1939-1945.

It seems there were two main Cap Badges worn by the Manchester Regiment:

1 - One that is very detailed, with a coat of arms that has two mottos: “concilio et labori” and “Manchester”

2- A second one which would be the “Fleur de Lis’

Which one of the two was mainly worn by enlisted men during WWII ?

the detailed badge is the coat of arms of Manchester and was worn until 1922



at that time the badge was changed to a fleur de lys



which was worn during WW2

Chris,
There were two types of Fleur de Lys  worn during WWII and post war years- Brass and Chrome.
Which Bn wore the Brass one ?

Sphinx is the expert on this but my understanding was that all the battalions wore the 'brass' version until it was changed to chrome after WW2

(but i may be wrong  )

I thought the Regulars wore the brass ones and the TA (Volunteers) wore the chrome. But I may be wrong !

Hi Bob,
Let's have the remainder of my wording now - I can vouch for the fact that the 1st Bn. (Regular) wore the chrome one from when I joined it at Wuppertal to the amalgamation with the King's Regiment at Brentwood - i.e. 1949 to 1958.
