I agree entirely with your remarks , as I hd said in my letter above yours '...he couldn't have done much operational work...' - taking 'short rations' out with you was and always will be a 'dangerous practice' - I didn't notice many 'corner shops or Tescos' out in the ulu.
Maybe he was in one of those units which worked 'strictly office hours' and before anyone shouts there were
