Regimental Staff Sergeant Enoch Hughes
« on: October 09, 2008, 11:28:48 AM »
I have been given some exceptional sketchy information about my Great Uncle Enoch Hughes because I'm researching another ancestor military history.

I've been told that Enoch was a regimental Staff Sergeant in the Manchesters. Does anyone have any records about him? Sadly I don't have much else for him at the moment as I've just been given that, and he was born in Feb 1902 and died in 1994.

I'm not sure if he was in the Manchesters, as I believe that 2 of his other brothers were in the Lancashire Fusiliers.

As I say, apologies for the poor information, but I'm right at the beginning for this one

hi Parksey

welcome to the forum and sorry no one has been able to directly help on Enoch

i suspect your best way forward may well be to contact the MOD direct, if you
go to this link, you will find details of how to apply for his service record

good luck

Thanks Chris for the link. I didn't think anyone would have been able to help as that would have been too easy!

When you need consent of next of kin, what happens if there is no next of kin? As far as I'm aware, Enoch had no children. Would I count as next as kin as he is my great uncle?

i'm not certain how it works in a legal way, but that seems quite reasonable to me, i suspect you may have to supply a death certificate as well

Hi Parksey !

Go ahead and apply, there is provision for your next of kin status on the form, but Chris is right you will need a copy of his death cert & 30

Just thought I'd give you an update on this.

I'm now in touch with Enoch's daughter, and she is going to send off for his service record. She's also given me some more info about him and what he did before and during the war. (he was in the territorial's before the start of WW2 before joining. Then progressed up through the ranks, survived Dunkirk, became a Gunnery instructor, staff sergeant and transferred to a Devonshire regiment. Though not all in that order)

And she has found a picture of him in uniform with others from the 9th Manchesters and she is going to send me a copy of it. When I get it, I'll post it on here incase others are interested

I'll ask her for it next time I speak to her. You have no idea how much I want to see this photo!

She is going to get his service record as well. I've managed to invite myself over as soon as she gets it!
