Ggrandfather research
« on: November 11, 2009, 03:09:10 PM »
Hello
My name is Chris. I am currently researching my family tree and have been trying to find information about my Great Grandfather’s life and service within the Manchester Regiment. His name is Solomon Harrison b1869 from Marston Montgomery in Derbyshire. He enlisted at Ashton under Lyme on 12th April 1890, Regimental No. 2171. According to his service record (from Ancestry) he served in India (1890-96) and South Africa. Medals received: India general Service medal (clasp Samana 1891) and QSA (Clasps: Wittebergen, Cape Colony, Transvaal).
If anyone can furnish me with any more information and/or sources to search It would be greatly appreciated.

Chris.
Your first step should be to read the regimental history.  Volume Two of Wylie's History of The Manchester Regiment will give you all the necessay background and will be available through your local library service.

Hi Chris and welcome to our forum !

I wish I had time, just now, to look up his record before replying, but sadly I can't do both !!!

The thoughts that are going thro my head are that if you found his record on Ancestry, perhaps there is more at The National Archives in Kew ???
