why are the dates mostly from ww1,it says he was captured on 17-2-15 ???

the japanese don't (didn't) use the same calendar as us, they date events from the enthronement of the emperor, in that case hirohito (the showa period) 1928 plus however many years   ;)

we did some work on this soldier on the old forum, Michael Carroll ended up as a POW in both WW1 and WW2..........

I have only just realised that there is a slight error below in your information on Emperor Hirohito's enthronement and date conversion between the two calendars.
The following is modified from my original posting here.
His reign was from 25th December 1926 acording to Wikipidia so I still get confused in trying to work out dates on POW Record Cards.  To get the date of Capture on 15th February 1942 (The day my wife was born) to convert to the Japanese 17.2.15 they must use the 25th not 1926.
I found this site with a date conversion facility on it ( See: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2272.html ) which works out OK.
