Can anyone help with information on a Joseph radcliffe ,wife emma he was suppsed to be a militay man .both came from ashton under lyne. I am assuming that he would have been enlisted localy or am i assuming to much.I also have a noel gorman who apart from being born 1906 ,marriage 1926 also seems to have disappeared of the radar may he have been enlisted on the outbreak of the war.I cannot find a death record for him ,would this therefore mean he may have been killed during the war.
Any thoughts would be wecome.

Hi thea !

Probably a better idea to start a new thread for each person otherwise it can get confusing !!

Do you think they both served in World War 2?  If they were killed in the war their deaths would be recorded on The Commonwealth War Graves Commission website.

Oh! and yes it's too big an assumption that in World War 2 they would have enlisted in a local Regiment, they may have enlisted locally, but would have been sent to which ever Regiment or Corps required them.

Hi wendy
I was told by an older member of the family that Joseph Radcliffe was a military man .He married my grandfathers sister since my gandfather and Emma were both born out of wedlock information on them is non existant. All i have conclusively is that Emma did marry Joseph Radcliffe in june 1929.

Noel Gorman married in sept 1926 to Ethel Knight . She is the half sister of Emma and my grandfather.I did go briefly onto the commonwealth war graves site but have not had time for a longer look yet.To many brickwalls in my family on both sides. :-\
