Hello everyone.  I just signed up this evening.

I have cast myself inthe role of the family historian.   ::)   My sister and brother have always thought I was a bit mad, but are now getting interested themselves in our maternal grandfather's war service.
So I hope to impress them by digging out some more information here about my grandfather and his two brothers - who were all officers in the Manchester Regiment and who all (remarkably) survived World War I.

hi angela

welcome to the group ;D

i hope we can help you, officers are a little easier to trace than other ranks, the best way to deal with them is one by one, i think the best way forward is to make a new thread in the great war section

cheers

Thanks for the welcome, Chris!

Yes, I thought I would start a thread in the other section - but I need to set up a scanner first so I can post a picture or two.

I shall not be much help to others re military history, as you all sound such experts.  I do however speak fluent French, so if any forum member needs an inscription, citation etc translating, I might be able to assist with that side.
Also, I know Northern France quite well, as far down as the river Somme, so can possibly answer tourism questions on that.

"global moderator" ?!  What a title!
I am so impressed, Mack.

They are called Bagshaw, but I will post their details in another part of the forum, as suggested.
[EDIT  I meant to add that all three of them won the MC, and all survived the war.]

Just tried to connect up my old scanner, which I haven't used for a couple of years, but I think it has given up the ghost - so no Bagshaw pix yet.
