Thomas Curtiss - Pioneer Sgt 1893
« on: October 12, 2009, 11:49:24 AM »
My grandfather (John Henry Curtiss) was born 27 June 1893 at New Barracks, Limerick. His parents were Teresa nee McCann and Thomas. I'm trying to find out more about Thomas. Where was he from, why was he in Limerick and what happened to him. I think he appears on the 1911 Irish census in Dublin aged 53 and an army pensioner. Any help would be great...this has been a long journey!

Louise.
1st Battalion the Manchester Regiment was stationed in Southern Ireland between 1888 and 1894.  A photograph in the regimental history shows the drummers of the battalion in the barracks at Limerick in 1893.

Hi Louise and Welcome to our Forum  ;D

Can you check your dates please !  if he was born in 1893 he would only be 18 in 1911 ???

Is it your suspicion that his father was in the Manchester Regiment?

Sorry Louise!

Have you tried the National Archives for his pension records?
