sgt 14064 william carroll joined the 24th manchesters,A.coy,2nd platoon,on 8th november 1914,after training with his battalion,he later transferred to the 22nd battalion on 18th june 1915,and served with them for the rest of the war as their pioneer sgt,in his civilian life,he worked as a roller maker,he lived at 61 plane st,oldham with his wife louisa and adopted daughter matilda,he was awarded the MSM which was gazetted on 1-1-18,after the war he moved to 5 milton st,southport,he died of a heart attack in 1924,caused by his service in the great war,he was only 46yrs old
