William Thomas Picker was born at Ardwick, Manchester on October 27th 1889. He was educated at Armitage Street School, Ardwick and was subsequently employed as a Warehouseman. He enlisted in the 2/7th. Battalion Manchester Regiment in September 1914 and was present at various actions in which his Battalion took part near Nieuport and Arras and in the Somme region 1918. He rendered valuable service as instructor in bombing and gas attack and attained the rank of Sergeant. He was killed near St Quentin on March 21st 1918. He married Lenora, daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles Avery of Northfield Speldhurst.
