Hi everyone.

I'm looking to find out if my granddad served in the army ww2. His name was Thomas Connors he came from Tipperary but lived at some point in Droylsden my gran was called Josie if that helps. I do not have much more information as i have just started to research him. No one else in the family seems to know what he did during the war but they think he joined up and i am assuming that if he was in Manchester he must have joined the Manchester regiment. He must have been in his late thirties or early forties at the start of the war.

Cheers

Mike

Hi Mike and Welcome  ;D

There is little publicly available regarding WW2 veterans, as their service records have not been released, however they are available to next of kin, for a fee, from the MOD, but his death certificate will be required (and that will have his age on it)

As you think he was around 40 it's possible that he was not on active service.  Have you considered the fact that he might have been in the Home Guard?

All info re obtaining his service record for either service is available from http://www.veterans-uk.info/service_records/army.html
