as pte edward bleackley moved across open ground,to deliver a message,he was spotted by a turkish sniper,and shot in the head,his brother cliff,who was close by,went to his aid,he managed to get him down to the field hospital,and was operated on,the doctor told cliff,that he didnt hold out much hope for him,he was transferred to a hospital ship and taken to the 13th gen hospital at alexandra,although dangerously wounded,he seemed to rally a bit,but later deteriorated and died,on 25th july 1915.
he was the son of harry+esther roberts bleackley,lynton house,cheadle hulme,he was 18yrs old,he worked for his father in his cotton cloth business at york st,manchester,he was educated at stockport technical college,and played for heaton mersey lacrosse club.he was mobilised on the outbreak of war,and sailed with his battalion,on 10-9-14,landing with them at gallipoli,on 5th may 1915

pte 2131 harry,radcliffe bleackley,known to friends as cliff
cliff was later wounded in the foot,and sent to hospital on malta,he later transferred to the RE.
