death of Lt ross,22nd manchesters

friday 5th october 1917
Lt edward ross,while leading his company,was shot in the hip,his servant carried him back to the field ambulance,from where he was taken to the CCS at godewaersvelde,where he died of his wounds on sunday 10th october.

he was educated at oak house prep school,hathersage and also xavarian college,victoria college,manchester,and later to clarkes college,london,and passed from there to the 2nd division of the civil service,working at the admiralty london in aug 1915
he joined the HAC in july the previous month and later gazetted 2/Lt in the manchesters,he was wounded in december at beaumont hamel but returned to france in april and promoted to lieutenant the following month
he was the only son of phillip,harvey+emily ross,"roseneath"longley lane,northenden
he would have been 23yrs old on 9th november
