Hi Everyone

I'm trying to date this photo, my Dad said it was taken in India, My uncle says Africa, he also said he was in the Kings Own Manchester Reg.

My grandad Louis was born in Apr 1912 at Ardwick, Manchester, as yet I don't have his records.

if you have your g/fathers marriage cert, you can apply for his service records at kentigern house.

mack ;D

Hi Mack,

I don't have a copy but I can get one! I know he married in 1935. Although I've been researching my family tree for 21 years, I'm a complete amateur when it comes to military records! I don't know of Kentigern house, what do I need to do?

Jane :)

Wendi

Hi Jane !

Kentigern House is in Glasgow.  It's the access point for obtaining service records for soldiers post 1921, however the records are only released to next of kin, or others, with the permission of the next of kin.

Also....... it's not his marriage cert you need, it's his death cert.....

All the info is here http://www.veterans-uk.info/service_records/army.html

Thanks Wendi

I think my Dad would be classed as his next of kin being the oldest living son, I'll have to download the forms and take them with me the next time I'm in Manchester, which I think will be around September, I'll be heading straight for a visit to the regiment musuem  ;D

In the picture, it looks like he's holding a stick of some sort, can anyone tell me why? Or was it just a pose thing!  ;D
