Manchester Pals Book
« on: August 09, 2009, 03:09:02 PM »
Hi

Do any of you know where I can buy the following paperback book - either new or 2nd hand?

It is called Manchester Pals. Author Michael Steadman. Publisher Pen & Sword Books Ltd 1994. ISBN10:0850523931 ISBN13:978-0850523935.  It is a History of the Manchester Brigades & covers the exploits of the 16th - 23rd Bn's.

There is a hard copy of this book published by Leo Cooper in 2004 that I know can be bought on ebay or Amazon at this moment but it is not this later edition that I want!

Hope to hear from one of you soon please.  If you have one to sell a personal message would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Thanks Chris - I thought the earlier edition has info in it that is different to the later one but obviously not.

Hi Chris

Have just got my hands on a first edition, 1994 copy of this book. Hadback, Yellow cover measuring 10"' x 12".  It is definitely different to a later & smaller reprint paperback that I obtained through a local library.  It has more pictures & in the back there is an Appendix I of Monthly Fatalities amongst the men the Manchester Pals Battalions. 1916 -1918 & an Appendx II of Awards for Valours & Meritorious Service 1915 - 1919.

Been in touch with publishers Pen & Sword Books who have confirmed that the current reprints of this book do not have the Fatality & Valour awards etc. at the back.

There's currently a copy of this book listed on EBAY.COM in America. Starting bid $20 but no bids so far.

Thanks Bob - I had already found this myself & I have been in touch with the seller to ascertain that the postage alone is $25.  Hope you are not going to bid against me as I would like to get this paperback copy?!  Wish you had kept this ebay listing secret!!

If you do bid I hope you wallet is larger than mine - in this event there will of course be no hard feelings should you win!

Best wishes & thanks for your post.
