Possible Regiment photograph
« on: August 01, 2009, 09:27:53 AM »
I wonder if anyone might be able to offer some information.  I have attached a photograph, on a postcard, of what I believe to be the Manchester Regiment, with my grand-father on it (seated, extreme right), just prior to his transfer to the Machine Gun Corps.  Could anyone validate that, or add any information about it?

Thanks and best to all.

Thanks Tonyrod.  Albert J is my grand-father.  I appreciate the feedback very much, it helps a lot.

MIC. Suggests no overseas service with the Manchesters. Does the address on the card and the name M N Newbury mean anything to you?
Researching:-
John Robert Robson 1/8th Manchester Regt 1915/16
Joe Cookson 12th Manchester Regt KIA 3 December 1915
Old Boys of William Hulme's Grammar School

hi kem,  ,the mic shows he was entitled to a pair  m.n.newbury could have been his next of kin  given on enlistment  but not 100% sure, they appiled for his medals 21/11/1923  looks like they were returned  undisposed of before that date,.

Hi all

Thanks very much for your input.  M N Newbury was his sister, my aunt, and she did indeed live on Higher Lane at that time.  I've no idea whether she got the medals though as I've never seen them.

Is there any way to tell what Arthur started doing in civvie street when he was de-mobbed?

Cheers

his pension record did survive, his occupation was vulcaniser, but many soldiers were to too ill or physically unfit to return to their previous employment, arthur escaped any injuries, spending most of his time in egypt and palestine,he got laid low with flu a couple of times, but other than that,he was A1
CHRIS.
have you looked at the background in this picture,it looks similar to the background in one of the photos in your own collection, its the one taken at burlington st[i think]
