I am looking for any information on William Herbert Dempster, born approx 1894, I have my g.fathers discharge papers, he joined the manchester reg, the dep unit at seaforth on 29.12.1916 the number at the top of the discharge paper is 8618,  I have found his medal records and his number is 27134 he was discharged in 1919 as being physically unfit for service.  from what I know, he was sent to a hospital in the middx area, why would he have been sent there.?

Is there anywhere else I could look to see if I can find any other information about him prior to his time in service,  I cannot find his service records of service pension details on ancestry.  I cannot find his place of birth.

any help is appreciated,

thanks

Hi williams grandaughter, listing on Ancestry BDM for William Henry Dempster, 1893, July-Aug-Sep quarter, Prestwich, Lancashire, Volume 8d, page 392. Also look on Ancestry for his marriage, that will give you his father's name, then you can work backward for your ancestors. You would have to get his birth cert to prove this is your G'dad. Then you could do a look-up for the family on the 1901 and 1911 census.

hi chris,   I have that one and the one 27134,  didnt know if they were the same ones,  from what my newly found cousin has told me, he was discharged in 1919 after his leg was amputated,  he was sent to middx where he must have met my nan.   it is his details before joining up that we cant find.  there are no details on the service or pension records on ancestry for him,  we were hoping there was and it may have told us where he was born.  rumour has it that he was born in scotland, edinburgh castle, then his family moved to liverpool/manchester when he was about 7yrs old, but I cant find his birth either on scottish/english census.

Here is the discharge card for W H Dempster, for other people to see that may be able to help.
It gives the K/R Ref, reason for his discharge.

hi tonyrod,

W.H Dempster married Daisy Walker 1919 in isleworth, middx.

he must have been sent to a hospital in isleworth after discharge, I believe my nan daisy walker was a nurse at the time and that was where they met.
