Hi ,I have this photo of an unknown soldier ,can anyone tell by looking at it, if he was in the Manchesters and from roughly what year it was taken .Thank you

its around 1939/40,i cant make out the badge,but its not the manchester regt

Hi Mack ,thanks for looking ,he's going to be a mystery for the time being .Is there any way to get him identified at all ? I have considered sending a copy of it to an Ashton or Dukinfield newspaper .

Hi tisgrannie, at the moment I don't have a clue as to who he could be ,the photo is amongst some very old family photo's .All that I could give is some possible family surnames .

you need to scan it again on a very high resolution, then crop the cap

Sorry for the delay ,I only have a very basic scanner ,is it possible to do high resolution scans on all scanners do you know ?

Hi davesmum !!

We are entering dangerous territory here

but basically it's all about pixels. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image_resolution

Basically the highest quality that your scanner will do is your highest resolution $:-\$ if that makes sense.

As harribobs says, scan in the photo again, at the strongest you can then crop just the badge bit on the cap, and see what you get !!

Possibly - 1) Royal Engineers: 2) Royal Army Service Corps , - or a rank outsider 3) The Border Regiment.

Question - where is his '37 pattern web belt, if removed with his Field March set-up why is he carrying his respirator in this manner?

Something not quite right.
