Have you updated your list of war histories since July last year to include 1/5 Bn.

My grandad was CQMS of 'B' Coy 1/5 Bn, I have the WD's from the Gallipoli campaign but I would like to find out what the Bn got up to and their whereabouts after they landed in France in 1917.

Thanks

You could try sending him a PM or add for his attention in the heading as well.

the 42nd division landed in Marseilles and entrained to the north immediately to abbeville, they then went on to amiens and  went into training.

by april they had gone into the line at Epehy and later mover to Ytres in the area of Havrincourt Wood, (might be worth searching on this i have looked at this place before)

july they were at achiet la petit and in august they went up to Ypres (watou) in time for 3rd Ypres..

in september they had moved to Nieuport, meeting the 2/5th there, in november they were relieved and went to la bassee where they stayed until the german spring offensive in March 1918

they went into action at Gommiecourt/Ervillers and withdrew to the Bucquoy-Ablainzeville line, later they withdrew again to St Amand,

hope this helps
