On 16th July 1944 a two-man patrol of the 8th Battalion, consisting of Corporal Smith and Private Craddock, failed to return.  Information came in from local civilians that the patrol had surprised an enemy post, capturing five Germans and smashing two field telephones.  However on their way back one of the prisoners managed to escape and returned with a large patrol that wounded Corporal Smith and captured them both.  Later another Ardwick patrol went out, capturing two prisoners.  This at least equalised the score.

Have you any more detail on these two soldiers and were any other Ardwicks taken prisoner in Italy?

Hi, Is there a Harry Wilkinson listed in this book. The family story is that he was captured in Italy and then moved to germany but I have no idea which regiment he was in.
