Hi
I am trying to find out as much as possible about where my Grandad served during WW2.
His Name was Thomas Watson 3859843 and he served 6 years and 23 days before being discharged on 6/4/46.
I know he served in the Manchester Regiment as well as the Royal Regiment.
I got this inormation from his Soldiers Service and paybook.
Family tell me he was involved in the Normandy landings but that is all I know.
Many Thanks
Mandy

Hi Mandy and a Warm Welcome to our Forum !

Not much relating to individual soldiers who served in WW2 is in the public domain, but his next of kin can obtain his service record from the MOD this link will explain how

Do you know which Battalion of the Manchesters he was in?  The War Diaries may throw some light on the general goings on at the time

Hi Mandy
His service number comes from the batch 3846001 to 3902000 which were issued to the Loyal regiment, are you sure his pay book says "Royal" and not "Loyal".  He would have retained his original Service Number throughout his service.
