Hi John

The 16thBn data base in the Great War Research Sources is just a name given to the dropping of point for information of the 16thBn for Dave Murphy to pick up and add to his 16thBn data base that will be coming to the forum when it is completed, it's like Mack said. the 16th batts database isnt accessable at the moment, its still being compiled.
Hope this clears up any misunderstanding

Cheers Timberman

In the light of your comments in your first post
Quote from: dad_of3 on February 06, 2009, 10:49:30 PMas his Germanised name caused considerable domestic strife, this entire chapter of his life was swept under the carpet and never talked about again.

Macks latest posting is poignant.  It is possibly difficult to imagine, 96 years later, how valuable that Silver War Badge would have been to him.  Without it he may have been subjected to all kinds of ridiclule, or worse.  :-\  Wearing that tiny badge was simple proof of his willingness to fight, and reason for his inability to do so.

hiya wendi.
if a man is rejected or discharged as unfit after his medical, hes given a armlet, which has to be worn at all times, its to protect him from abuse and also stop him from being pulled by the police, these men dont qualify for SWBs,but they do qualify if their condition was caused during their service.

Mack ! an interesting piece of info that I had not come across before.

it was an armband wendi, they were sent to the chief constable in the area where the soldier resided, each one had a number, which was recorded by the police, and then it was passed to the discharged soldier, who had no choice but to wear it while outside, otherwise he was open to abuse or a quizzing by the bobbies.
they are like hens teeth,i have never seen one,nor heard of one for sale

Talking about 'unhappy events' his Uncle Ernest reportedly was sent to the Isle of Man as being of risk to security. But that is something for another day.

Cheers Dad_of3.

Not sure if you are looking for information on this aspect (i'm new to the forum so only just found this thread)?

If you are, I'll have a dig around locally and see what I can find for you.

Any info you can add to internment on IofM will be gratefully received by the forum, and I'm sure by Dad_of3 too  ;D
