I am hoping to post some info on my Grandfather at a later stage. I also have some memorabilia that I an considering donating where it can be better appreciated. Can someone advise if you have an archive type arrangement and who should I contact? Many thanks.

Okay, my Grandfather, Edward John Stratton was born in 1900 and married my Grandmother in 1927. My mother was then born in 1928 in Llanelli in South Wales.
Before he was married, he spent 6 years in India with the Manchester Regiment but I know not where. Doing the sums, I think he went to India in 1920 and returned in 1926 having been injured and went to Netley Hospital. Prior to India, he spent some time in Aldershot but I have no more detail on that. In family records, we also have a train ticket to Aston-Under-Lyne so we assume he was at Ladysmith Barracks at some point. I am trying to find it at the moment to see if there is a date on it. We have a number of pictures of him and others in uniform so I will post some of those when I dig them out. One of them shows him wearing a medal but I have no idea what it is or why he was awarded it nor do we know of the whereabouts of the medal.

3513983 Pte EJ.Stratton 2nd Bn Manchester Regt Iraq Medal (General Service Medal 1918-1962). Old Army number 89908 Still serving after 4th June 1923 when he was issue the medal.

Many thanks to themonsstar!! This is a great step forward. Would I also be able to find out exactly what his movements were for the length of his army career? I think I have already detailed our vague idea but it would be nice to have specifics.
I mentioned previously that Pte EJ returned from India and, we think, went straight to the Royal Victoria Hospital at Netley. Is there any way of finding out why he went there and when exactly?
The photographs, one of Pte EJ alone, one of him and his "pal" and another which is a group photo, are on their way to me and as soon as I have them I will upload them into this site.
As for the memorabilia, it is a set of silk flags that we think came from India and appear to detail all the campaigns of the regiment going back to the mid 1800's. I will also add some pics of that but will also contact the museum as suggested.

His record should answer a good few of your queries.  There is only a limited amount of information regarding post 1922 men in the public domain.

If you can get them here are two books I would recomnand, covering some of the time Edward was with the Manchesters.

George Stuart Henderson (The story of a Scottish Soldier) 1893-1920. This book covers the time the Battaion was in Iraq. By R.King-Clark

Regimental Life in the British Army in India 1921-1922, 2nd Bn Manchester Regt, by F.H.Broomhall. Edited by are very own Robert A.Bonner.
