Gaille

Hi,

Just a quick note to introduce myself.

I'm a Born & Bred lancashire lass, live over in Oldham up by the Moors.

I am trying to decipher my family history and hit the proverbial 'needle in a haystack' on my dads side of the family & I was directed here for help, I dnt know why but I have had a strong feeling some of the answers I am looking for are in here somewhere.

LOL and if anyone is into Irony I will give you a laugh .................. I was desperatly tring to work out where the "Museum of the Manchesters" was and I just couldnt figure it out , then I realised why it seemed so familiar ........... I have walked thru it literaly 100s of times usuing the disabled lifts to get to the top floor of the Town Hall and it just didnt 'click' that what I was looking for was right under my nose!

Hi Tisgranie,

I hit the boards earlier & posted a few questions, had some good help on them too.
I have just got a lot of needles lost in very big haystacks basically, trying to track down Evans's & Smiths (LOL I'm not tackling the Smiths till I can get the 1911 Cencus & a complete list of names & dates tho - there were 11 siblings and I only have half of them Birth dated so far).

I have to say, even if I dont find what I am looking for here, I love the educational side of this forum, I have learnt so much already just looking around.

Hi Gaille Were they all born in Oldham? Have you hit the local Interest Centre, were they all Christenedd etc.
Just a way to look. If I can help in any way.

LOL I wish!
So far I have births in 3 seperate registration districts!
I have births in Warrington, and in Prestwich. On the 1901 cencus they are in Warrington, my Nana was bornin in 1906 & registered under Prestwich wich covers Newton Heath so at some point they moved but there are 4 children born in this timescale we think & not sure where, lol & looking for a 'Smith' in Manchester dob unknown is nigh on impossible.
Christenings are the same, but unfortunatly the Newton Heath ones are at All Saints, and the records dont seem to exist.

Not hit the LHC yet, I had actually forgotten it was there until someone on Genes reunited told me about it, silly realy cos I drive past it every week!

Hi Gaille Believe it or not I have seen Oldham come under Prestwich! In some of the older records. I am off for 2 weeks on holiday but I will try to drop in and see how things are.
Good luck

Just to give you some hope, the 1911 census is in Beta test this month, so it should be available next year.

Hi,

Yeah most of my familys certs for newton heath are registered on Prestwich registrations, I think my mum & Dads marriage in 1964 was registered there, and they married in Moston.
Wierd rally cos its far closer to Manchester central area than it is to Prestwich!

Have a good holiday, I finished today until the 5th Jan so I am finaly in holiday mode!

Guess where I just was? lol looking at the 1911 beta site, i just got my invitation to check it, sadly its no use to me right now, it only covers London, Staffordshire & Wiltshire & Middlesex and non of my ancestors come under threse areas.

the search info looks good tho! if all the fields in the search are covered on the cencus it should give us a lot of info.
