Martin Rogers

My father was based at Dornoch during the 2nd world war. i am visiting in february please can you help me to tell me where the Manchester Regiment were based ?

the regiment was split into many battalions during the war and were scattered around the globe

can you give us a bit more information, perhaps which battalion or what year?

Assuming that your father was serving with a battalion of the Manchesters and not posted as an individual to another unit then the likelihood is that he was with the 7th Battalion who were the Vickers machine gun battalion of 52nd Lowland Division.  Although a Lowland division in name, they were trained in mountain warfare and from April 1942 until D Day were concentrated in the mountainous region of the north-eastern Highlands of Scotland with headquarters at Craigallachie.

The only other prospect is that the 9th Battalion spent a little time in  Scotland also with 52nd (Lowland) Division in 1941/42 following their stay in Iceland.
