Hi everyone.  I'm a new member, and may I say what a great forum?

I'm researching this fellow, and can't find his service record.  Maybe someone can help locate it:

George Frederick DIXON
b. 5.5.1895 at Ardwick, Manchester
Enlisted 9.9.1914, number 252767
Was with 22nd Manchesters at Waterlot farm/Ginchy in 1916, where he may have been wounded
2/6 Manchesters, 66th Division in Belgium 1917/18

Any additional info will be very much appreciated.

the territorial battalions were re-numbered in 1917, the old system had got too unwieldy due to the increase in the number of territorial battalions and ( i imagine) the same service numbers were cropping up too many times and causing all sorts of problems

so they were re-numbered, the good news for us is that they did it in blocks so we can now see where they came from
