John Roberts

Francis Ivor is my grandfather (born 3 Apr 1879). He enlisted on 11/Sept/1914 in the Duke of Lancaster's Own Yeomanry. His discharge papers show he was tranferred to reserves (with the Manchester Regiment) on 28 Feb 1919.  He was finally discharged in March 1926.
His medal card was found on Ancestry under Francis S Roberts but the S is just a florid I  ???

He also served in the Boer War as 22669 Trooper with the 77th Squadron, 4th Regiment, Imperial Yeomanry. He enlisted in Manchester on the 29 July 1901.

Any information which would add detail to our knowledge of his history, or a pointer to where we might look, would be gratefully received

hi john

welcome to the forum (i'm getting some deja vu here ;D)

the connection with the Manchester Regiment is that on the 24th September 1917 the 12th battalion absorbed R.H.Q. & two Squadrons of the Duke of Lancaster's Yeomanry. (7 Officers & 125 men), now dismounted after serving as III Corps Cavalry Regt.

The battalion became 12th (Duke of Lancaster's Own Yeomanry) Battalion, The Manchester Regiment

Thanks Chris :)
I can start to research the III Corps Cavalry Regt and the
12th (Duke of Lancaster's Own Yeomanry) Battalion, The Manchester Regiment. From small acorns.....

Thanks for the piccy, but whose badge is it?   I presume it has some relevance. It is a very odd coincidence if it has, because I was unaware of it when I made the initial comment. I've not made any progress with the research as yet?
