Hi, I'm hoping to trace a (possible) member of my family who servrd for a time with the Manchester regiment. I have most of the details available from the War Graves Commision except his DOB and which battalion he served with. The problem I'm having is that he apparently transferred to the North Staffordshire regiment at some point before his death in September 1918 - was this something that often happened? If this is the Walter we think it is he would be my great, great uncle and very young. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Ali.

hi ali

Walter was in the 6th battalion manchester regiment prior to his transfer, he was probably wounded ( or sick) and when he recovered he wouldn't have had the choice of where he wanted to go

here is his entry in 'soldiers died'

cheers
