Thank you all, for your very kind responses.
Hi Ian
and welcome to the group
You have the medals of an original 'pal'
Edward Evans Private 20559, 22nd Battalion C coy plat 9
he went off to France on the 12th Nov 1915 and seems to have survived the war
this is a photo of his platoon, but i don't know which one is him
and a copy of his medal index card

Chris I can’t thank you enough for the information given, it has enabled me to make a connection with the medals and the brave soldier who risked everything to safeguard our freedom.
Hi Ian and a Warm Welcome to our Forum
It would appear your old neighbours trust was well founded! Is it your understanding that Edward Evans could have been a relation to the gentleman who left them to you ?

Wendi, thanks for your reply, It is my understanding that Pte Edward Evans was related to my childhood neighbour. I can give you more details if needed.
Ian.
I suggest that the most suitable place for the medals to be held is in the Museum of The Manchester Regiment. A special medal room is devoted to the medals awarded to soldiers who served in either the Manchester Regiment or its two predecessor regiments - the 63rd and 96th Regiments of Foot. Donated medals become the property of the Trustees of the Manchester Regiment Collection and are in the safe keeping of Tameside Council.
They are kept with high security and cctv coverage. Details are shown on the museum website and perhaps you should have a word first of all with the excellent curator -Garry Smith on 0161 342 2254.
Robert thanks for that very useful information, I think the museum would be a most fitting tribute to entrust Pte Evans medals to. I shall be giving them to the museum on my next visit to Manchester before Christmas and touching base with Garry Smith.
Just one final thing, with the medals was a 1939-1945 Defence medal. There is no name on this medal, and I’m assuming this is down to the mass distribution of this medal. Does the time frame fit could this also be one of Edwards’s medals?
Thanks again
Ian
