Hi everybody ,

im trying to fill gaps in about my great Uncle George , who hailed from Ashton in Makerfield  near Wigan ( stubshaw cross ) . Im currently waiting to receive his service record so that i can add more to his history ( i believe he served in palestine before going to singapore ) .

he was 27 when he died which i guess may have made him an older service man in those days ( not sure if there is any truth in that ) .

i as wondering if anybody was still  in the position to share knowledge or information about him ?

also, i have not seen his name on any of the local memorials ( Manchester centre , Wigan -which has a 5th Bat . section , or indeed in Ashton )

any pointers etc would be extremely welcomed , i have periodically been on the FEPOW website and have been given good advice, but i though i would try the regimental forum for some " local " knowledge .

best regards

Paul

Welcome to the Forum Paul, have a look at http://www.roll-of-honour.org.uk/Cemeteries/Kanchanaburi_War_Cemetery/html/roll.htm This is the Roll of Honour for the Kanchanaburi War Cemetery.  You Great Uncle is there with the service number of 3528829.
I will get back to you later, hopefully with a little more information for you.

Paul.

Your first port of call should have been the Chapel of The Manchester Regiment in Manchester Cathedral.  The books of Remembrance for all who died in WWI, WWII and post war conflicts are there to be seen.  Duplicates are also there for the public to examine.
