flying scot

Recently I was looking up some family ancestry and came across a reative who was a private in the Manchester Regt 1st Battalion.
It seemed unusual as he was a scot from Glasgow. Most of my family served in scots regiments but he was the exception. His name was John McLemon . He was killed on 22/10/1944 in I think Germany and is buried in war cemetery at Uden. Is there anyway I can find out what action took place on that date. Also is there actually anyone who knew him or was there?

Hi FlyingScot. I stumbled across your comment enquiring about Private John McLemon. I'm one of his many great-grand-daughters. He was 38 when he died and was killed on October 22nd 1944. He's buried in Uden War Cemetery. I believe he met his death when he bravely volunteered to accompany an ambulance convoy, which was unfortunately blown up. He left behind a wife (my great-grandmother, Magdalena McLemon) and three young sons, James, John and Alexander. Alexander was my grand-father. Unfortunately his wife and all three of his sons are now deceased. If you have any questions about the family, please feel free to drop me a line and I'll do what ever I can to help you out.

From his service number it looks like he started his Army service in the Pioneer Corps.
