This is a bit of a long shot but it might help:
3226 Pte James Marland 2nd Battalion Manchester Regiment who appears to have been seconded  to the Royal Engineers as 360874 Spr James Marland was attached to 179th Tunneling Company and then won an MM with the Tank Corps at the Battle of Messines (Third Battle of Ypres) on 7 June 1917 (See Honour the Tank Corps).
Numbers and units are similar so they may give a lead.
