Thomas Daniels blinded in the Boer War - any help please?

Hello all.  I'm new to this and wondered if anyone could me?

Not much is known about my great-grandad (Thomas Daniels) in my family, so researching my family tree is proving difficult.  We have no date of birth, no date of death and no approximate age when he fathered his children.  All we have is, sadly, rumours.   Apparently he served in the manchester regiment and was blinded in the second Boer War and discharged to pension. He may have also been a 'preacher', or so i've heard.

It would seem that he wasn't married to my great-grandma but they had 2 children - my grandad in 1906 and his sister in 1907. We know from these 2 birth certificates that by these years he was 'An Army Pensioner'.  This is the only information my family have.

I believe I can go to the National Archives Office in Kew and search the files of 'WO 97'.  I was hoping that there may be another way of finding anything out? It is awkward time-wise and money-wise for me to go to Kew you see.  Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have found 3 T.Daniels in the Manchester Regt for the Boer War.

5346 Pte T.Daniels 1st Bn with the medal Queens South Africa (Bar) Natal, invalidid home.

8182 Pte T? Daniels 6th Bn  medal QSA (Bars) Cape Colony,Orange Free State, SA1901.

3455 Pte T? Daniels 1st Bn Kings South Medal (KSA) Bars 1901 & 1902.

How can I find out if one of these men are who I am looking for?  Particularly the private invalided home?
Is it a case of travelling down to kew?  Or would the Museum of the Manchesters be able to help me now I can give them possible soldiers info?

I've had a look at the casualty rolls for South African War and can not find 5346 T. Daniels, your next step would be Kew or the Manchesters Museum
