Thank you for allowing me to join the group  -

As regards my connection to the Manchester Regiment  /  Gallipoli
I have established that my grandfather Private Thomas Curran 1737, served with the 1/8th Manchester Regiment in Egypt and Gallipoli.  He was a pre-war territorial soldier, and would have been among the first territorials to leave England at the beginning of the war, sailing in September 1914.
The 1/8th landed on the peninsula in early May and took part in some of the heaviest fighting at Helles before being evacuated at the beginning of 1916.
Apparently he was discharged in September 1916.
I have established that my grandfather Thomas Curran was born in 1895 and lived at 15 Appleby Street Harpurhey and married my grandmother Ethel Townley who lived at 34 Newton Street Gorton on 27 August 1918
He had three children one of whom was my father who was born in 1920
As far as I can establish my grandfather passed away in Elton which is a village near Bakewell Derbyshire in 1929

Any further information or tips as to where I can find anymore information on my grandfather or the Curran / Townley families will be much appreciated
