New to forums - Malayan Emergency - Iban headhunters
« on: February 19, 2022, 12:23:14 PM »
Hello Manchesters and comrades,

I'm new to the forums and I'm here because I am currently trying to collect information on the Iban headhunters who served with the British during the Malayan Emergency. I'm currently researching the political scandal triggered by the Daily Worker newspaper after they published a photograph of a 40 Commando marine posing with the decapitated heads. I know the Manchesters often served with Iban trackers but I'm not looking for information on any specific regiment.

If anybody has run into newspaper clippings, biographies, regimental histories, photographs, or any anything else that could possibly be useful then I would be extremely grateful :)

Welcome to the Manchester's Forum, do you have a name we can call you?
Have a look through this thread:

There are 21 pages on the Borneo Head Hunters, unfortunately our real expert on this subject is no longer with us.

You may also want to have a look through the photo section, in particular http://themanchesters.org/forum/index.php?board=25.0

Dear @rafboy.

It's been over a year since I last visited the forums but I did it and my research of Iban head hunters serving with the British armed forces in Malaya has finally been published. Thankyou again for pointing me in the right direction, it helped me uncover Robert Rizal Abdullah's book which uncovered a few mysteries.

It is being sold by Pen & Sword books, and the cheapest copies are on their website: https://www.pen-and-sword.co.uk/Head-Hunters-in-the-Malayan-Emergency-Hardback/p/24035

Nice to see it published Dan.
You may want to join this Facebook group and post the details there, if you don't want to join I will post the details for you. Let me know via the Forum messages if you want me to do it.
I will also put them on to the page for the Far East Brit Brats, those who like me went to school in Malaya (including Singapore) and other far east locations.
