I have just recently posted my request for help on the Manchester Regiment Facebook page, with some helpful replies, and so I thought I would ask the forum the same.
I am researching my Great-Grandfather.  I discovered he served in WW1 with the 16th Manchester. He shows up on 'Findmypast'  revealing  his POW details. - He was taken POW on 21st March 1918 at St Quentin- 50361 Pte Albert Mansfield 'A' Company 16th Battalion Manchester Regiment.  Just wondered if anyone might have any more information to hand to help in my research. I think he might have been called up in May 1916,  his service number appears to be higher up than the 1914 - 4 digit originals - but I am not sure.  I have bought a copy of 'Manchester Pals' to help me along the way but any help from the forum would be appreciated.
Cheers.

Welcome to the forum Malcomraf.

Plenty of Manchester Regiment specific knowledge on here. Have a good root around the topics and i hope you find out about your relative.

Thank you RAFling, Great news, I have already found him on the 16th's forum. Albert is listed as having survived Manchester Hill, he was in 'A' Company.  Still trying to find out more details about his service; when and where he enlisted and served. I have been unable to source his service record, I think it may possible be one of the ones destroyed in September 1940. I am relatively new to this genealogy business but enjoying it, and this forum is excellent.

Malcolm,

Have a look at the Manchester Hill record. https://www.themanchesters.org/Manchester%20Hill.htm

I concur with your thought that Albert was probably conscripted. As was born in 1881 and had a wife and daughter this may have been late in 1916, amybe after.  If you check other records (service, pension & SWB) of men with similar service numbers you may tighten up the date a little.

Welcome to the forum.

Tim
I've moved the post to 1914-18 so its more visible
